2023 Environmental Lectures

As medical care and technology evolves, the average lifespan of humans has grown yearly. In 2011, the average lifespan of Taiwanese people is 79.15 years old. In 2021, the average lifespan of Taiwanese people is 80.86 years old. The average lifespan increased by 1.71 years in the last decade, and methods to achieve a healthy and happy has become a hot topic of interest.

SZS invited lecturers from the Organic Life Promotion Association to share the keys to living a healthy and happy life on March 25th and March 30th. Starting with smelling artificial food flavorings, the lecturers guided the attendees to recognize artificial additives and processed foods. If one consumes large quantities of processed foods, the risk of cancer is greatly increased. The lecturers then provided ways to identify and avoid harmful substances in daily life. For example, the amount of plasticizer is high in soft plastic products and plastics should not come into contact with high temperatures or oils. Examples were also brought up about the relevance of environmental hormones, life stress, and diet in respect to physical health.

Many people are accustomed to their present lifestyles, thus growing oblivious to environmental changes and even signals from our own bodies. Hopefully, this lecture can activate everyone’s health awareness, help preach green life knowledge, and assist in the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle!
